Sum it up Sunday: Week 1


It has been awhile since I’ve been consistently writing blog posts after having our second baby. I’d like to get back into the swing of things and thought journaling my fitness journey would be fun! I felt the name “Sum it up Sunday” would be perfect for these weekly reflections.

This week, I began going full force back into my workout routine. Although I began when I was 6 weeks postpartum with Kayla Itsines pretraining Bikini Body Guide (BBG),   I was modifying heavily, slowly developing a routine and skipped some workouts.

During my first week of BBG, I managed to get ALL of my resistance workouts in despite opportunities to push them aside. I made it work and I’m proud of myself for pushing to make it a priority of mine. 

Aside from actually doing the program, I am so excited to say that I reached a few fitness milestones while being postpartum. I am doing the exercises written in the guide instead of replacing them but modifying as I gain strength. I was able to do 15 push-ups in a row from my knees for one round this week! I have been primarily doing wall push-ups because my arm strength is very weak. On the bright side, my core strength is surprisingly not too bad for being 10 weeks postpartum! I was able to do straight leg sit-ups, mountain climbers, and burpees without modification! I did modify ab bikes by placing my hands under my but while bicycling my legs. I’m being very smart as I’m becoming stronger by modifying when necessary and focusing on my form. So far, I am very satisfied with my beginning and can’t wait to feel myself get stronger each day!

Before beginning any exercising after becoming postpartum, I wanted to make stretching and yoga a top priority of mine. I have never been a flexible person and really wanted to work on my flexibility so that my muscles could recover properly, prevent injury, and my form will be much better while exercising. On Wednesday, I surprised a March goal of mine to be able to touch my toes by being able to touch the floor with my finger tips! MAJOR fitness milestone reached because I was never able to do that even in my best shape before baby number 2!
